Program Description:

The Anauê Service Learning Program combines Portuguese language, culture, and service learning in Recife, Brazil throughout the year. Our goal is to bring students to low-income communities and promote the sharing of experiences with the local community leaders. We will offer support for the student to have an enriching experience from the moment they arrive and depart Brazil.

Students will conduct service learning activities with a local nonprofit or community organization throughout their stay in Brazil. These activities include lecture, hands-on workshops and community service opportunities (80 hrs) Sustainability Service Learning retreat in the country-side of Pernambuco. (10hrs) Portuguese language instruction (40hrs) Brazilian culture, politics and business seminar (40 hrs) Local city tours of Recife and Olinda are included in the service learning program. Additional optional excursions throughout the northeast region of Brazil will be available on selected weekends.

Anauê is dedicated toward expanding the global perspectives of all participants. Anauê is dedicated toward expanding the global perspectives of all participants. Anauê plans to host at least 100 university students in Brazil every year as they conduct social tourism and service activities. Anauê strives toward encouraging non-traditional students to participate in the study abroad program.

Setting Description:

Students will live with a local family in the capital city of Recife, Pernambuco. This city is located in the Northeast of Brazil which is arguably the most culturally rich regions in Brazil. Lively festivals, electrifying music and dance styles and mouth-watering cuisine attract a diverse range of tourists to this area.
