Program Description:

Bukovinian State Medical University (BSMU) is a modern multistructural educational institution of the IV level of accreditation with ancient traditions. It was founded in October 1944. The University holds a distinguished position on European level. Nowadays it is recognized as a member of the International Association of Educational Universities (IAEU), of the World Health Organization (WHO), of the Association of Carpathian Region Universities (ACRU) and of the Magna Charta Universitatum. BSMU is located in the magic core of Chernivtsi-city. This beautiful city with magnificent architecture, a variety of museums, cinemas and theatres, shady alleys in its parks and public gardens, summer cafes which can be found literally round every corner attracts tourists and students from across the country and abroad. At present 62 Professors and more than 312 Assistant Professors (PhD) work fruitfully at 46 Departments of the Medical University. Among them there are Members of the Academy of Pedagogical Sciences of Ukraine, numerous Honored Science and Education Workers, Members of New York Academy of Medical Sciences. More than 100 ofteaching staff have gone to countries of Asia, Africa and Central America at different times and worked in various higher medical institutions; they have a good command of foreign languages and rich experience working with students from abroad. Nowadays there are 7 medical faculties in BSMU: 4 medical, dentistry, a pharmaceutical one and a faculty of postgraduate education. A preparatory department for foreign citizens (learning Russian /Ukrainian language) functions there too. The lanquages of instruction are: Ukrainian, Russian, English.

Speciality “Nursing” educational – qualification level “Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSc. Nursing) ”qualification of a “Nurse” education received on the basis of Junior Specialist level 1 year (60-120 ICTS). Speciality “Nursing” educational – qualification level “Junior Specialist”qualification of a “Nurse” School leaving certificate 3 years full-time. Speciality “Pharmacy”educational – qualification level “Junior Specialist”qualification of a “Pharmacist” School leaving certificate 2 years full-time 3 years correspondence learning speciality “Laboratory Diagnostics” educational – qualification level “Bachelor”qualification of a “Laboratory technician (Meicine)” School leaving certificate 4 year (240-480 ECTS). Foreign students’ training is realized according to the Law of Ukraine “On Legal Status of Foreigners” and a Decree of the Ukraine’s Cabinet of Ministers of August 5, 1998 “On the Admission of Foreigners and Person without Citizenship for Training at Higher Educational Establishments”.

There are 6 dormitories attached to the University where all the necessary facilities for residence and studies have been created. The rent for living at a dormitory is $30-50 per month. Students start classes in September-October. Application form can be obtained from Admission Office or from WEB-site of Medical University.

Setting Description:

While applying foreigners must fill APPLICATION FORM and send it to the University, to do money transfer – deposit of 10% of tuition fee and $17 visas support. On the basis of this application and deposit person receive formal “Invitation for study”. Then Applicant should submit the following: A copy of the Birth Certificate; A copy of a High Secondary School Certificate and a Transcript (with grades in Biology, Chemistry and Physics); • A Medical Health Certificate authorized by the Official Health Care Body of the country a foreigner arrived from, and given not later than 2 month prior to the arrival of an applicant for training in Ukraine; • A Medical Certificate certifying the Absence of HIV infection (in case no other certificates are provided by International treaties of Ukraine); • Insurance Police for emergency medical aid (except for foreigners who arrived from the countries which have signed agreements on rendering free emergency medical aid); • 6
