Program Overview

Program Description:
Cotton Tree Lodge, a small, independent jungle lodge in southern Belize, is seeking 1 – 3 interns for their 2012/2013 season. There is a lot of fascinating work to be done at the lodge and the internship experience will vary depending on the interests of the applicant. In the past, interns have been interested in hotel management, cultural tourism/ecotourism, restaurant management/Culinary arts, marketing, organic gardening, horseback riding, and construction/carpentry. Interns do not need to have a particular hard skill set, but hotel, restaurant, and customer service skills are highly desirable.

Interns will have a highly hands-on experience as this is a very small business. Get to know the local Mayan culture and the eco/cultural/adventure travel business in a stunning location.

Setting Description:
The lodge features 11 guest cabanas, a restaurant and bar, an organic garden, tour services, horseback riding, and a beautiful riverfront. The atmosphere at the lodge is intimate, with all guests coming together for tours and meals. The lodge is in a fairly remote jungle setting approximately 15 miles from the nearest town. Most of the local residents are Mayan and speak Mayan dialects; however English is the official language of Belize.
Cost:
Interns will be expected to work a 5-day week with two days off. The internship is unpaid, but meals and housing in staff dormitories will be provided at no cost to the intern. Family and friends can stay at a 50% discount.
