Program Description:

Interns work under a translator and assist with editing roughly translated documents in order to be sure the finished product is written in proper colloquial English. Interns in this placement must be fluent in both Mandarin and English. Past interns have assisted with documents such as technical instruction manuals, programs for international conferences, and journal articles.Some of the organizations accepting international interns may offer monthly stipends to offset the costs of living in Shanghai. To qualify for a position offering a stipend, interns must commit to at least 12 weeks with the program. The amount of the stipend varies, but it is usually enough to cover the cost of rent.

In-country Staff Support: ELI's coordinator in Shanghai has years of experience working with international interns. He is very resourceful and on call 24/7 in case of emergency. Accommodations: Participants have a choice of accommodation including private apartments, shared apartments, and host families. Interns can choose the accommodation that best suits their individual needs.
