Program Description:
Singing in Italian The Uguccione Ranieri di Sorbello Foundation is offering an ITALIAN LANGUAGE COURSE FOR SINGERS: a unique opportunity to study the Italian language as used in opera librettos. The course will be held from18th July till 27th July 2012 in the bustling old town of Perugia, located between Florence and Roma in central Italy. Lessons will be conducted inside the 18th Century palazzo, otherwise home to the Uguccione Ranieri di Sorbello Foundation and a House Museum (www.casamuseosorbello.org). The course aims to provide intense language study for singers as well as an opportunity to enjoy a richly diverse environment. Specialized instructors will head lessons in diction, pronunciation, and stage performance, while professional staff will accompany students on organized cultural excursions in and outside of Perugia’s historic walls. The qualified staff of the Institute Comitato Linguistico will be in charge of the linguistic part of the course. At the course’s end, students will be invited to sing in concert in one of Perugia’s finest locations.

Course activities The course will consist of intensive daily lessons (6 hours) including the following subjects: -Italian language, diction and pronunciation -Study of the Italian language as used in Opera Librettos -Performance and interpretation of texts with piano accompaniment (lessons will be customized according to participants requests) -Tutorials in posture and use of gestures -Some afternoons will be reserved to rehearsals in specially equipped rooms The Institute Comitato Linguistico will be in charge of the linguistic part of the course Cultural activities: The course will also include cultural activities planned by the staff of the Foundation and to be realized in the city of Perugia and the surrounding environment. During the week: -Welcome Dinner -Orientation tour (with guided tours to museums and historical monuments of the city) During the week-end: -Guided tours to important monuments and cultural sites of the Region Umbria -Guided tours to local Ceramics manufacturing laboratories -Guided tours to Embroidery artisan workshop specialised in antique fabrics (optional activity – for a fee) -Experience of Italian Cooking and tasting of local products Upon completion students will receive a certificate recognizing their achievements and enjoy the opportunity to sing publicaly in concert in a fine location.
Setting Description:
Lessons will be conducted inside the 17th Century Palazzo, otherwise home to the Uguccione Ranieri di Sorbello Foundation and a House Museum situated in the heart of Perugia’s old town, within walking distance of all major monuments and attractions. The city is home to the Università per gli Stranieri, the University of Perugia, the Music Conservatory as well as other recognised academic institutions. Students will find an active and engaging environment – ideal conditions for a Language Course for Singers in Italy. Perugia is home to many of Italian finest Opera signers, like Antonietta Stella, Anita Cerquetti, Mario Sereni, Carmen Gonzales, Mario Petri, Marina Palazzo Sorbello, where the lessons will be held, houses a valuable collection of paintings, porcelains, printed works, manuscripts and embroidered fabrics.
