Program Description:

HomeSchool Abroad provides an opportunity for students to study online and become immersed in a small Latin American community. We coordinate with families to tailor our program for the specific needs and interests of each individual. Learning possibilities include, online classes (dependent on academic requirements), part time jobs or community service projects of interest, various cultural events, and travel throughout Peru and Ecuador. Spanish language proficiency is acquired naturally in this setting and varies per student. We strive to highlight the strengths of each participant and support youth as they grow and acquire marketable skills.

We have experience working with students with learning differences as well as students who struggle with the rigors of university level course work. We look to promote time management skills,create self starting skills and focus on any basic skill deficiencies. Beyond the cultural experience that students receive, they also are able to reinforce all areas of academics before returning home.

Setting Description:

Mancora lies on the north coast of Peru and is tucked between the sandstone cliffs of the Talara Basin and the Pacific Ocean. This thin strip of land provides the setting for our program in a small town environment. Involvement in the community builds the bond between students and local residents. Mancora provides unique opportunities for students ranging from shopping in an open air market to working with local artisans. Many tourists visit for the beautiful landscapes and dynamic ocean sports, but the richest experiences are found during daily interactions. From our Mancora home, students are given the opportunity to travel to different destinations during their stay. Our close proximity to Ecuador allows us to program trips in this area to add variety to our travels. Western South America is marked with a defined coastal area, followed by an Andean mountain region that ends with Amazon rainforest.
