Program Overview

Program Description:
This 9 month intensive training program is designed to produce professionals in the field of Tourist Guide service. The main teaching language is English. The study plan includes a 240 hours module to study a foreign language to choose between Spanish or Russian. The theoretic part takes place in our school located in Barcelona and in the town center of Lloret de Mar, Spain. After the theoretic modules are completed, all students have to complete an internship period in one of our collaborating companies. This program will provide you theoretic, linguistic and practical skills. This training has been specially devised to teach you all the information and skills you need to become a successful Tourist Bus Guide. Instruction is in the form of lectures, seminars, workshops, cases and individual assignments. Examination is in the form of written exams and individual and group assignments and workshops. In addition to the training you can also purchase a pack of a ready-made excursions in English, Spanish and Russian languages in order for you to use it immediately during your first professional intake. All foreign students have to realize a Spanish language preparation module to do an official state exam of Spanish for Foreigners DELE of the correspondent level A1, A2, B1, B2, C1 or C2. HTL International School is an accredited DELE examination center of the Instituto Cervantes. The Spanish language exam will be done directly at school.

Setting Description:
Individuals with this qualification are able to work in multiple tourism industry sectors and enterprise types. They may work for inbound tour operators, outbound tour wholesalers, local tour operators, at cultural and heritage sites, in marine and national parks and attractions, or may be owner-operators of small tourism businesses. Because guiding is an occupation that relies on a knowledge base, guides at this level may have specialist knowledge of particular destinations, local areas or regions, sites, tourist precincts or any subject matter. Local guides have a broad knowledge base and deliver tours across a particular city, local area or region. Specialist guides at this level operate tours to remote area destinations and others manage extended touring programs within and outside Spain.
