Program Description:

KLS Intensive Spanish Summer Language Program is unlike any other language immersion program anywhere! Not only do you get to learn Spanish in a fun and exciting place, you also get to do it while staying in a safe and secure place on an All-Inclusive Resort! Course work will be instructed by a highly-qualified native Spanish professor or certified teacher. Class sizes are small (max 12 students per class/per session) to ensure individual attention and faster learning. Excursions and activities are programmed to engage and immerse you in Dominican life, while being a few steps from the beach. Who could want anything more when learning a language?

Students who want to learn Spanish, but have not taken any classes yet in the Spanish language will benefit from this program. This level 1 program will help students complete Spanish 101-102 so that a college student can advance quicker or test out of their college language requirement or a business person can use the language in their job. This course is also designed for anyone who wants to effectively acquire and have command of the Spanish Language in a short period of time. Session 1 & 2 Level 2: This program accommodates students that have completed Spanish 101-102 or anyone that is at an Advanced Beginner/Low Intermediate Spanish level. This level 2 program will help students complete Spanish 201 and 202 so that students can test out of their college language requirement or advance in their Spanish Language skills while being completely immersed in a Spanish speaking country. All students will take Spanish language courses that are student centered focusing on the skills of writing, reading, speaking, and listening using ACTFL Language Learning Standards. Students will be actively engaged every day in learning, practice, and application of knowledge, while the teacher facilitates this process. As a student, you’ll be responsible for your own learning and the learning of the entire class, which is accomplished through hard work and a positive attitude. Students may enroll in overlapping, back-to-back summer sessions, allowing them to complete 12 credits (if accepted by home university/college) or 220+ contact hours of Spanish. Recommended credit per session is 6 semester credit hours. If your home university does not give you credits for the course, then most institutions allow you to test out of the language requirement or allow you to take a placement exam for a higher-level class. There are other exams available to receive credits or leveled recognition such as CLEP, DELE (diplomas of Spanish as a Foreign Language), or the NYU 12 point or 16 point foreign language examination.

The program includes: Tuition, Course Materials, All-Inclusive housing at Vista Sol Resort, All meals, Internet access in certain areas of the resort, Laundry Service once a week, Transportation to and from the airport and local places for shopping and culture, 3 Excursions, some local events and pre-departure advising and full-time program leadership and support during the program. Basically when you arrive, everything will be paid for other than personal things you would like to purchase for yourself.

Setting Description:

The Dominican Republic is a beautiful island in the Carribean. The location of the program is in the Punta Cana area of the island. The program will take place at an All-Inclusive Resort. Hotel Vista Sol Punta Cana is an all-inclusive resort with a private beach, 3 swimming pools, 7 bars, 1 buffet restaurant and 3 a la carte restaurants, a disco and show area. There are shows every night and activities throughout the hotel daily. Hotel Vista Sol Punta Cana is a small-scale resort and, therefore, all amenities and attractions are always nearby. For those wishing to keep fit Hotel Vista Sol Punta Cana offers a gym, 3 tennis courts, beach volleyball, table tennis, aqua gym and much more............. The hotel has its own security staff on grounds at all time, and there is a medical center and doctor on site. Parents and students can feel safe and secure knowing that they will be taken care of at every moment during the program.
