Program Description:

Every child deserves a fair start in life, but South Africa’s township children are at an immediate disadvantage due to factors beyond their control. 11.5million of the country's 19 million children live in poverty. They face unique challenges and for many such children, daily life revolves around basic survival. Little Lambs is a PreSchool and Daycare Centre in Cape Town which caters to the poor of the community. The centre operates 5 days per week with a full-time Principal and 15 teachers and provides a safe learning space for 250 children aged between 10 months to 6 years. The children are cared for in a loving environment, are taught values and simple life skills and are prepared for formal schooling. Each class has a teacher and between 25 and 35 children.

Interns will be assisting the teachers with all the daily tasks and duties: - Welcoming the children and assisting with getting ready for their day at the school - Take part in the structured daily teaching program (Math, English Writing, Reading, Painting etc.) - Assist with art, music or physical science during class or in the afternoon - Pay special attention to pupils, who have difficulty with certain subjects/tasks like English, writing, drawing, maths or general school work. - Music Ring – assist with songs, rhythmic, games and books This Internship is right for you if you have: - A passion for working with children and genuine love for and interest in children - Maturity, patience and sensitivity to cultural and individual differences - The ability to communicate well in English and the ability to be reliable and consistent - Agility and energy to engage in physical child play - The ability to work in a team environment with children, teachers and other interns

Cost:

Costs & Application: This position is unpaid and you will have to carry the costs for expenses such as flight, accommodation and meals during your stay. The centre is a registered non-profit organisation and can unfortunately not carry these costs for you. The Daycare centre unfortunately cannot provide accommodation or meals, so you would have to take care of this yourself.
