Program Description:

SAI Programs and Florence University of the Arts are pleased to offer high school students from all academic backgrounds the possibility of earning college credit and living for four weeks in one of the most treasured centers of art, culture and history in the world. Students will experience the Italian culture hands-on while participating in a variety of classes in the arts and humanities in this summer enrichment program.

The SAI High School Program gives students the opportunity to experience the vitality and excitement of Italian culture while earning university credit. During the academic portion of the program, participants take two courses at Florence University of the Arts for a total of 6 credits. In addition to the hands-on activities and field trips included in each course, students will also participate in a variety of social, cultural and athletic activities. All courses are taught in English and there is no language prerequisite to participate. Please see the SAI website for a list of courses offered.

The SAI Summer High School Program includes a full staff dedicated to the student group; 1 staff member for every 7 students. In addition, staff members will stay with students in accommodations (one staff member for every 10 students at night), in order to be available 24 hours per day. The planned events and excursions offer students a rich social and cultural experience, combined with the opportunity to study in Florence.

Setting Description:

Florence University of the Arts (FUA) is located in the historic center of Florence. The school's location offers students the opportunity to live in the heart of the Renaissance while simultaneously experiencing modern Florentine life. Florence lies in a valley on the banks of the Arno River in the Tuscan region of Italy. Nestled in among low hills covered with olive groves, and vineyards, Florence captivates those who visit. With a population close to 500,000, Florence offers the amenities and culture of a large city, while delighting visitors with the charms of the intimate historic city center. The historic center of the city is bursting with sights, museums, fine art, shopping, fine foods and wines. Florence is also well known as an important center of contemporary art, fashion design, graphic design and business, all of which can be studied at Florence University of the Arts.
