Many of the managerial decisions taken in modern business organisations and financial institutions require a good understanding of the national and global economic environment. You can expect to pursue a career in areas such as the financial sector, Media, Government Departments and Agencies, Teaching, Transportation and Telecommunications. (3) Marketing; This major option deals with important marketing subjects such as branding, marketing communications, consumer behaviour, consumer culture, advertising, internet marketing and marketing strategy. Graduates have gone on to pursue successful careers as marketing executives, brand managers, sales managers, and marketing consultants in a variety of different business industries. (4) Human Resource Management This major option will offer you the prospect of developing the range of human resource management skills and competencies needed in today’s global marketplace. Subject areas covered include organisational behaviour, employment relations, human resource development and human resource management. Graduates will be ideally placed to pursue careers in HR and industrial relations, leadership, consulting, learning and development, training, and academic research. (5) Risk Management and Insurance This popular major option offers modules that develop skills for rewarding careers in the global insurance markets. The increased need for protection against new risks, increasing levels of regulation and demand for effective risk management have instigated a rapid evolution in insurance. Material covered on the course includes Risk Control and Underwriting, and an understanding of the managerial process inherent in Insurance Organisations and Markets. Other subject areas include Claims Management (Insurance Law and Claims) and Risk Analysis. In year 3, you will also take a minor option which consists of one module per semester over the final two years. The following Minor Options are currently offered: Business Research Methods and Final Year Project Globalisation – An Economic Perspective Entrepreneurship Financial Services Law Management Organisational Psychology Quantitative Analysis for Business Sociology Supply Change Management Business Informatics Students taking BBS with a Modern Language (LM052, LM053, LM055) study a language stream in one of the following languages; French, German or Japanese throughout the four years of the programme.
